EKK, Inc. Newsletter - July/August 2003
We have received several comments concerning the clarity of the presentation of analysis results using the CAPCAST post-processor CAPOST. We took these comments to heart and recently made some improvements that we feel improve our presentations. Previously, CAPOST would plot the results along with an 'edge line' depiction of the orientation of the casting (edge line example). This edge line depiction sometimes caused confusion, and so we now allow for the ability to plot results on top of a gray shaded image of the model, as in the animation below:

You can also plot thermal, porosity or stress results using this functionality, as seen in the thermal analysis image below:

It is important to note that the pictures above were made using just CAPOST. No extra modules to buy, no need to purchase better hardware, no performance hit. In fact, plotting results on top of the shaded model is now the default behavior for CAPOST.
Our software customers can download this newest version of CAPOST through the distribution section of our website, accessible by going to http://www.ekkinc.com, clicking on the 'Customer Support' link on the left, then clicking on the 'Software distributions' link.
EKK Releases New WRAFTS GUI For High Pressure Die Casting
Since WRAFTS is a very versatile fluid flow program it is often confusing for CAPCAST users to setup a simple fluid flow analysis. For this reason a new GUI named "gwrafts" was created. Gwrafts can help setup and run high pressure die casting fluid flow analyses including slow to fast shot speeds. The inputs are geared more towards the user as shown in the figures below.

This GUI can read and write record or function files, create WRAFTS executables, and write result files. Future releases of gwrafts will include trapped gas tracking, conjugate heat transfer, low pressure die casting, and more. Any questions or comments can be directed to Steve Elmore at selmore@ekkinc.com.
EKK presents at American Axle "Zero PPM Casting Seminar"
Marty McLaughlin was one of the speakers at the recent American Axle "Zero PPM Casting Seminar" on July 25, 2003. Many of our software and consulting customers were present. If you would like a copy of the slide show that Marty presented, please email us as ekk@ekkinc.com and request it.
Representatives from EKK will be attending two shows this fall. We will be manning a booth at NADCA's 22nd International Die Casting Congress & Exposition on September 15-18, 2003. We will also be attending the AFS Midwest Regional Conference on October 27, 2003. Come out and see us. As always, we invite you to bring a CAD file (in STL format) so we can do a quick demonstration for you.
Did you know that we have an online form where customers can report software bugs, request software features, or discuss any other issues they have with our software and services? After submitting an entry through this form, the relevant individuals here at EKK will receive an email with all of the details you enter. The feedback form can be reached by going to http://www.ekkinc.com, clicking on the 'Customer Support' link on the left, then clicking on the 'Feedback form' link at the bottom. Use it, abuse it, like it!
