Stress Analysis Module

Real cast parts have casting defects which must be addressed in product design. CAPCAST's STRESS module is a 3-D finite element stress and distortion analysis program which performs fatigue damage assessment of potential defects in castings and dies. It also calculates thermal die distortion and can calculate parting line gaps. Using fast iterative equation solvers, it can analyze very large models on entry level PCs and workstations. For ease of use, it is tightly coupled to AMESH mesh generation tools. It can accept pre-existing solidification meshes as well as accurately simulate defects without meshing.

CAPCAST's STRESS module offers linear elastic and elastoplastic analysis, including CAP-based thermal stresses. Defect models incorporate both linear elastic and ductile fracture. Finite element models can be built once in AMESH and used for solidification/thermal analyses, mold filling simulations, die thermal distortion predictions, and even product design stress analysis.

EKK can identify problem areas in dies or cast components at a preliminary stage, facilitating timely modifications. Using CAPCAST's STRESS module, casting distortion can be assessed, as well as durability in the presence of oxides, hot tears and shrinkage damage.
